More secular science confirming the Creationist's point of view, which is that the genomes of all organisms are in a state of decline. They are de-volving not evolving.
The article discusses the genome of the Prochlorococcus, a microbe. The article states, "Prochlorococcus has an extremely minimal genome. If it were to lose the function of any one metabolic gene, its survival would be nearly a coin toss. To their surprise, Casey and co-authors discovered that the world's most abundant microbe has performed, through a process called "genome streamlining" -- the concerted loss of frivolous genes over evolutionary time".
So they are saying that this organism has lost functionality over time. This agrees with the idea that genetic information can definitely be lost and degraded over time, but does nothing to prove microbes to man evolution, which requires the creation of new and functional genetic information. We are left with a mountain of evidence that mutations destroy and not create has microbes to man evolution would have you believe.
