Copying the Brain to Build a Better Artificial Synapse

The article linked to the picture below discusses how engineers are copying the design of our brains in order to build a better artificial synapse. Interesting how the most sophisticated designs are found in nature. What makes more sense - that these designs coded in DNA came about through random mutations and luck or that an intelligent designer programmed them?
The answer should be easy, unless your blind faith in microbes to man evolution gets in your way. Observable science shows a very intelligent designer is due the credit for what we see in nature.
