More Proof, Mutations Cause Disease Not Macro Evolution
November 1, 2016
The below article discusses genetic variation and mutations. The article states that, "Diversity in the genome is a good thing: it has allowed us humans to adjust to changing environmental conditions during the course of evolution. Such genetic variety generates diverse combinations with each new generation and can bring with it survival advantages". I would mostly with this statement as long as you know that when "evolution" is mentioned they are talking about adaptation. The scientific evidence shows that we humans were created with great genetic diversity from the beginning. Adam and Eve were like a computer pre-loaded with many programs and much data that provided the ability to create a great deal of variation in their descendants.
Then the article begins to address mutations. It states, "many variants that have no effect or even a beneficial effect on health, there are others that make their carriers susceptible to certain diseases". It is important to understand that many and probably most mutations (variants) do not have a noticeable impact on an organism, but none of them are adding new genetic information and certainly no functional new genetic information that natural selection can select upon. Some mutations do have a beneficial effect, but again it isn't because new genetic information was created. Most mutations that have a visible impact cause death, disease and disorders as the last part of this statement indicates.
The article goes on to state, "These harmful gene variants represent a survival disadvantage and should therefore have been weeded out by natural section in the course of evolution. Instead, some high-risk gene variants, such as those for Alzheimer's disease or cancer, have persisted in the population for a long time without disappearing". This statement seems to give natural selection too much credit. First, many of these diseases occur later in life after a person as had children. Second, new mutations are accumulated generation after generation. The result is that each generation starts with more mutations than the previous.
The bottom line of this article is that mutations cause disease and disorders and they can't all be gotten rid of. This lines up very well with the Biblical belief that our genome was created perfect in the beginning and has been in a state of deterioration every since our rebellion against God. This doesn't line up well with macro evolution, which requires vast amounts of new functional genetic information to be created in order to create and evolve complex life.
