There are two parts to the question. The first is based on observable science and the second is based on religious belief.
As far as the science, the article below shows that our faces are the product of many genes and variations in base pairs among those genes. There are literally more than a million different positions that can be changed that will alter the way our faces appear. Humans are the only life that has such variety in the way our faces look.
So WHY is this so? That is where we get into religious belief. The evolutionist would say it is an evolutionary advantage to have different faces. Some different scenarios of how unique faces would provide an advantage are listed below and come from this article -
1. "If an enraged neighbor mistakes you for their enemy"
2. "You've done something fantastic and someone wants to give you a reward, but they give it to someone else instead"
3. "Make individuals more recognizable to other people"
The question would be why did it only happen with us? I suppose an evolutionist would say we just got lucky through random mutations. A truly faith based idea that isn't based on any scientific fact.
So how would one that believes in God explain why we have such unique faces? I think it is because God created us all to be unique. We are all unique spiritually and physically. This shows that God thinks of us and loves us each individually. This can be seen in Ephesians 2:10 and Matthew 10:20.
