As we learn more about genetics, we seem to discover that a person's genetics not only impacts there physical attributes, but also their mental and emotional attributes. These genetic mutations can impact the likelihood of certain behavior. This leads to two important points in my mind.
1. In Heaven and a restored Earth, the genetic code will be restored to perfection once again. This one act will go a long ways in creating the amazing existence God promised. People will not only be perfect physically, but also mentally and emotionally as God originally intended. I can just imagine this perfection encompasses compassion, love, unselfishness, and all the other attributes of God. I believe it is these attributes that the Bible spoke of when it states we are made in God's image.
2. Why would God allow our genetics to make us into something evil - such as a murderer? This is a great question. We must remember that his original creation was "very good" so evil traits arising from genetic disposition wouldn't have existed in the beginning. In other words, God did not create us pre-disposed towards evil or against his goodness. It was only when we rejected God that the genome began to decay and accumulate mutations, which then led to issues such as this article references. The passage from Galatians 5:16-17 hits the nail on the head when warning us of these tendencies. It states: "But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please". So while we may be genetically pre-disposed to certain "desires of the flesh" that are against God, we must understand these are a result of sin against God and the decay of this world, which is shown in this case through genetic mutation.
