This article gives the results of a very interesting experiment. They took one gene from yeast and made point mutations in the gene to determine what impact the mutations had. This resulted in 60,000 strains of yeast. Interesting that the researcher noted that "the technique used in their research could aid studies into the effects of gene mutations that are linked to diseases in people", so researchers do recognize that mutations are bad for us and are the cause of disease. They didn't say the mutations would help them determine how new genetic information is created because they know full well that mutations don't create useable genetic information.
The key paragraph was at the end when Dr. Olga Puchta said: "Cells without any mutations fared the best and reproduced faster than any of the mutated strains, which tells us that this particular gene has been optimally configured by evolution."
This drives home the point that mutations are bad and affirms the Creationist view, but also highlights Dr. Puchta's faith in the Evolutionary Religion. Faith that evolution has optimally configured the gene through the use of information destroying mutations. In fact, he would probably have this same conclusion for every single gene in every single organism alive today because that is the only way to reconcile the observable science with the religious belief.
